Entebbe — Entebbe Municipal Council has dismissed allegations that it passed a resolution degazetting Kitubulu central forest reserve. This follows a threat by the area residents to take to the streets to protest the council's decision to reallocate the reserve located at the entrance of Entebbe peninsular.
Deputy Town Clerk Amon Muzoora told the press last week at the municipal council chambers that the forest is a property of the government under the National Forestry Authority and the council had no powers to change its use or sell off the reserve.
He, however, noted that urban authorities that are developing towards any forest reserve could request for its degazettement in case they find an alternative place to plant trees of equal acreage.
Mr Muzoora blamed the reports about Kitubulu forest giveaway 'elements out to sabotage the council's plans'.
