Massawa — Supervisor of animal protection of seacoast and Island project in the ministry of fisheries, Mr. Kal'ab Niguse called on the youth of the nation to step up vigorous efforts in the protection of living things and natural resources in the seacoasts.
In a speech he delivered during the seminar he held for over 400 youth in the port city of Massawa, Mr. Kal'ab pointed out that natural resources and living things in the coastal parts of the country are being destroyed due to human and natural calamities and underlined that the society should take good care of the nature for further life protection.
Pointing out that various researches confirm that there are five types of sea Turtles in 140 islands in Eritrea, Mr. Kal'ab underlined that the main reasons for the close to extinction of the animal in the country is due to ship collisions, deforestation and water pollution.
Coordinator of the project, Mr. Sami Mahmud on his part indicated that various researches have been conducted in around 300 islands and coastal parts of the country and that the project is actively engaged in conducting researches on algae, Mangroves, corals as well as birds and others.
