Angry youths in Bong Mines, Fuama District in Bong County, over the weekend took to the streets in violent protest in demand of a living body of a four-year-old boy who got missing on Friday.
The angry youths, in a two-day violent and bloody protest, went on the rampage by setting up road blocks, set ablaze a local police depot in the mining town, held several residents of the area and its surroundings hostage for the mysterious disappearance of the four year-old kid identified as Moses Binda.
The youths claimed that the police commander in Bong Mines, only identified as "Children Father," and some elders of the District were masterminds of the mysterious disappearance of the little boy.
Some of the angry youths and family members of the boy told The Analyst that the 4 year-old boy left his residence in Bong Mines Friday for school and never returned, until his body was found in a nearby creek in a rice bag, with hands tied with his uniform and several parts missing.
The angry youths indicated that their protest was to compel central government to launch an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of little Moses, as well as ensure that the police commander and some elders linked to the case face justice.
Besides taking hostage some residents of the district, the youths also chased the Police out of the area who, they claimed, had completely failed to provide security for the people, with youths often fallen victims to ritualistic activities.
Bong County Superintendent, Riney Jackson, and Fuama istrict Representative, Hon. Korpu Barclay who visited the area to meet with the youths, for an amicable solution to their protest, were rescued by the people of the district after been held for several hours.
The mob contended that the intervention of Rep. Barclay was belated, warning her not to visit the area on grounds that she had abandoned the district with no interest in bringing relief to the war-weary people following her election.
Meanwhile, Nigerian contingent of UNMIL and Police squads that had gone in the area to rescue Superintendent Jackson and Rep. Barclay are reported to be calming the situation.
