Ghana: CHPS - The Success Story of a Homegrown Pro-Poor Healthcare Delivery System

Accra — For the people of Kunkua, a tiny farming community of about 600 people in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, time when common ailments like malaria, coughs, cold, fits, diarrhea, malnutrition etc claimed the lives of newly born babies are gone.

Today, husbands no longer wait in awe fearing for the worse, as the clock ticks for their expectant wives to go into labour. Thanks to CHPS or Community-based Health Planning and Services, an innovative community healthcare delivery system that takes health care to the doorsteps of a people ranked as poor by the Ghana Living Standard Survey (GLSS4).
