Bali — The need to join the Kyoto Protocol and the recognition of the Millennium Goals as a great project for humanity, topped Sunday's opening of the 116th Conference of the Inter-parliamentary Union, attended by Angola's National Assembly speaker, Roberto de Almeida.
Flanking the Angolan Parliament speaker, were the MPs Manuel Lourenço, Armando Machado, Bernarda da Silva and Ângela Bragança (ruling MPLA party) and José Kativa (opposition UNITA), that are as from today presenting the country's position about the topics on the agenda.
In his opening address, the Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, appealed to about a thousand delegates to stand for a world order based on peaceful co-existence, dialogue and mutual comprehension.
The works of the conference resumed Tuesday with the first plenary session Roberto de Almeida is joining for the general debate on "Global warming, ten years after Kyoto" as part of the analysis of the world's political, economic and social situation.
Simultaneously, a meeting of the Commission on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade is taking place under the motto "Job creation and job security in the globalisation era" that will receive contributes from MP Manuel Lourenço Rocha da Silva, on behalf of Angola.
"Guaranteeing the respect for peaceful co-existence among all communities and religious creeds in the globalised world" is the topic for the Peace and Security Commission.
