Asmara — International Workers Day (May Day) was toady celebrated across the country in an enthusiastic manner. The observances took place at the Red Sea Soap Factory here in Asmara and were attended by ministers, PFDJ heads, senior government officials, religious leaders, diplomats and workers.
Speaking on the occasion, the NCEW Secretary General, Mr. Tekeste Baire, said that in countries like Eritrea that had gone through colonial domination, workers play significant role in rebuilding socio-economic infrastructure. He further stressed that workers should enhance their production capacity and make optimal use of new technological devices in the development drice.
Similarly, the PFDJ Secretary, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, said that Eritrean workers have played commendable role in the struggle for independence and building a nation in which prosperity and social justice prevails.
Stating that the role of workers is imperative in the efforts being made to promote socio-economic transformation, Mr. Al-Amin asserted that the Government and the PFDJ are taking the necessary steps towards creating a favorable ground that would help reinforce worker's endeavors.
The Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Askalu Menkorios, on her part said that development programs being carried out through the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign are registering encouraging achievements vis-à-vis improving the people's standard of living.
