Nigeria: Hypertension, a Silent Killer Next Door

Lagos — Hypertension has been recognised across the world as a ruthless silent killer-disease. However, experts are not resting on their oars in the attempt to introduce better ways of managing the ailment. Agha Ibiam writes

In one of George Orwell's books titled: 'Animal Farm', he told a story that all animals are equal but that they are those more equal than the others. This is also true of some sicknesses. Some are gentle killers, while some are fast killers. Hypertension is regarded as one of those fast but complex killer-diseases. This is not only in Nigeria but the world over. For instance, it was recently reported that Malaysia has the largest obese population in Southeast Asia. The country is also experiencing a worrying rise in the number of people suffering strokes and hypertension.
