South Africa: 'Must Secure Uranium Supply'

Cape Town — SA needed to ensure that its abundant uranium resources were not exploited for the benefit of the nuclear development strategies of other countries, minerals and energy director-general Sandile Nogxina said in Parliament yesterday.

The draft nuclear strategy drawn up by the minerals and energy department, and already submitted to the cabinet, was partly designed to guarantee the security of uranium supply, Nogxina said. The proposed programme of uranium beneficiation was a response to this need.
