Uganda: Kayihura Wants Shs9b to Stock Teargas, Kiboko

Kampala — POLICE Chief Kale Kayihura told a Parliamentary Committee on Tuesday that he would need to buy anti riot equipment including teargas worth Shs 8.8 billion if he's to subdue crowds effectively next financial year.

Maj. Gen. Kayihura and Ministry of Internal Affairs officials were presenting budget estimates for the financial year 2007-8 to the Parliamentary committee on Defence and Internal Affairs. He said he needs arms and anti-riot equipment like teargas and batons (kiboko) to curb riots.
