If there is one thing which most parliamentary aspirants have lent during the primaries, it is the fact that popularity alone cannot take one into the Glass Palace. Money, lots of money, is needed to grade the rough road to Ngao-Ekelle. Logical! In most villages, where people can spend months without seeing a bank note, it is easy to understand why most of the electorate would tremble at the sight of CFA 10,000 frs!

There is the case of this modest young man, who is loved by all his peers. Development ideas, he has in abundance. He succumbed to popular demand and decided to stand for primaries in his party. Judging from the number of fans club which he had, Ngoa-Ekelle was just an arm's length away. But great was his shock when on election day, he was abandoned by all. None of his admirers could stand the desperate look on his face. "My son, we love you. But we are hungry. We need money", they told him.
