Ethiopia: Authority Renovating Heritages

Addis Ababa — The Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage said it is renovating the various heritages of the country across the nation.

Authority International and Public Relations Officer Sewagegne Shiferaw told ENA that various tourist attraction heritages in, among others, the Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples states, are under renovation.

The authority undertakes relevant restoration and conservation on the Lalibela rock-hewn churches, monuments of Axum, Atse Fasil Castle, Tiya Stelae and other heritages.

The country's ancient monasteries and churches are exposed to damage due to old age, he said, adding, the authority is renovating the heritages in a bid to preserving them without altering their original structures.

The authority and other international organizations cover the renovation costs.

Meanwhile, in line with the renovation of the heritages, the authority is conducting studies on Ethiopian nations and nationalities to promote their history and cultures.
