Ethiopia: States to Celebrate May 28 Colourfully

Addis Ababa — Gambella, Benshangul-Gumuz, Amhara and the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) States said they would celebrate May 28 colourfully, which would be marked on the eve of the new Ethiopian Millennium.

Gambella State Chief Administrator, Umod Ubang and Speaker of the Benshangul-Gumuz State Council, Seyfedin Harun told ENA that May 28 is a day in which the equality of nations and nationalities was ensured.

They said states, which were forgotten for many years, have become beneficiaries of their rights ensured in the Federal constitution.

They said this year's May 28 anniversary is special as it is marked on the morrow of the Nation's and Nationalities' Day.

May 28 has enabled to improve the livelihood of nations and nationalities in the country, they said.

Speakers of the Amhara and SNNP State Councils, Dr. Misrak Mekonnen and Tekle Didu respectively, said on their part that this year's May 28 is marked at the time when the country is exerting efforts to register economic growth for the 5th time.

They said all community members should contribute their share in the efforts under way to speed up development.
