Addis Ababa — The International Day of Biodiversity was commemorated around the globe last Tuesday.
Plant diversity around the world is under threat from modern crop improvement, habitat loss and disasters, both natural and man-made. Many scientists argue that guaranteed funding for the world's gene banks is essential to preserve biodiversity and to secure food supplies for the future. In this article I deal with efforts to fight hunger in Africa by preserving seeds and by boosting research into improved crop varieties.
