Eritrea: His Holiness Abune Dioskorios Anointed as 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church

Asmara — The investiture ceremony and anointment of His Holiness Abune Dioskoros as 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewhado Church took place yesterday at the St. Mary Church here in Asmara.

On arrival at the Church, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros was accorded warm welcome by archbishops, religious leaders and the faithful. After receiving the key to the Holy Shrine and conducting religious sermon, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros was sworn in to serve the people with dedication.

Present at the ceremony were Ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, invited guests and the faithful.

It is to be recalled that His Holiness Abune Dioskoros was unanimously elected on April 19 as the 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewhado Church by representatives of monasteries and various churches in the country, as well as other Eritrean religious leaders.

Born in 1935, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros joined Abune Abranios Monastery at the age of 15 where he received religious education and had fulfilled his religious mission in different capacities.
