Somalia: U.S. Navy Strikes Al-Qaeda Hideouts in North Somalia As Two Officials Slain

Mogadishu — An American navy warship off the coast of Somalia's northern province of Puntland reportedly struck suspected al-Qaeda operatives believed to be hiding in the mountains near Baar-gaal settlement in the semiautonomous region, according to the provincial officials.

US special envoy for Somalia, John Yates, revealed on Friday, in an exclusive interview with Shabelle, that the US officials believe al-Qaeda linked elements have still been active in the war-ravaged country.
