Abeokuta — PRIMATE of the Church of Nigeria , Most Revd Peter Akinola yesterday told former President Olusegun Obasanjo to dedicate his life to the service of his poor neighbors and to seek reconciliation with the people he had deliberately antagonized.

Most Revd. Akinola spoke on a day the former President admitted that the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, late Bashorun MKO Abiola actually won the election but lamented that he was not sworn in.

Delivering the sermon at a thanksgiving service organized by the Egba Traditional Council for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake Abeokuta, the Primate said that it was time for the former President to dedicate his life to the service of God.

Explaining that Chief Obasanjo, having attained the age of 70 and achieved so much in life, the Prelate said that he should shed off all excesses in his life and humble himself so that his soul can be salvaged.

He said: "Thank God you are already 70, the biblical three scores and ten. By the Grace of God the house to live is not your problem. God has given you so far too many houses. What to eat is not your problem. Paying children school fees is no longer your problem. So what is your problem at the age of 70?

"From this time on, you must dedicate your life and I use the word must. This is not an option. You must dedicate the rest of your life to the service of God and in humble service of your neighbors.

"You must seek reconciliation with people you deliberately or inadvertently antagonized these many years. By the Grace of God, you have everything in life. What is left for you is to be humble and to shed off everything of that excess luggage that you have. All those side attractions of sin, every political expediency and all those military adventurism. All those unholy financial pursuit must go. They must go".
