Nigeria: Ahmadu Ali Dares FCDA

Abuja — THE Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ahmadu Ali yesterday dared the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) commenced reconstruction of one of the houses, demolished by the Development Control department of the FCDA.

Construction work had begun in the house located on Number 8, Abubakar Koko Crescent, off Maitama Sule Street, Asokoro, coming barely a week the bulldozers of the Development Control moved into the house to pull it down with plans to complete the demolition last weekend.

Vanguard gathered that the exercise had to stop following an instruction from above as it may not augur well for the new administration of Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'adua to begin with an unpopular agenda of demolition especially that of the Chairman of a party that made it smooth for him to win the primaries amidst the array of aspirants under the platform of PDP for the number one position of the land.

The source said further that the presidency had given instruction to the Development Control and the FCT water board to find an alternative way of connecting the pipes rather than pull down the house of Ahmadu Ali.

When Vanguard visited the place yesterday, six workers seen working there, were busy fixing back the Aluminium windows, internal fittings as well as openings for the Air Conditioners filled back. All these were hitherto removed following the order from the FCDA that the house would be pulled down as it was built on an illegal place.

in a telephone conversation with Vanguard, the Public Relations Officer of Development Control, Mrs. Josephine Mudashiru who claimed she was not aware of any renovation work going on the said house, said the Development Control had to stop further demolition of the Number 8 building following an instruction from above that the exercise must stop.
