GOVERNMENT has advised Chinese investors not to siphon their profits but plough back into the local community for the betterment of the Zambian people.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Mike Mulongoti, said there was need for Chinese investors to re-invest within the country so that the local people could benefit.
The minister was speaking on Wednesday night during the first anniversary of the Zambia Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification of China (ZCPPNRC).
Mr Mulongoti, who is chief Government spokesperson, said if the investors externalised all their profits, they would be creating fertile grounds for misunderstanding with the local people.
Zambia and China enjoyed cordial relationship and it was important that Chinese investors respected the social policies of Zambia and vice versa.
Chinese investors should further abide by the local laws and respect local culture some of which could be strange to them.
"I know it's impossible to have perfect relationship but strive that Zambia and China also develop. When you are doing business be mindful that the local people want partnership. If you externalise all your profits, you would be misunderstood," Mr Mulongoti said.
He praised the council for its efforts in spearheading the reunification of Taiwan to China adding that Zambia had always supported the 'One China' policy.
ZCPPNRC president, Roger Lee, said the council did not only aim at promoting peaceful national reunification of China but to contribute towards the strengthening of Chinese society in Zambia.
He said the council would also work towards enhancing friendship with Zambia.
The council would further work at extending respect to Zambians by the Chinese and abide by the laws of the land.
"We should enhance integration in the relationship with the media and churches especially the indigenous community," he said.
He said the council would continue to oppose any separatist act of Taiwan independence as the latter is part of China.
At the same occasion, Chinese ambassador to Zambia, Li Quiangmin, congratulated the Government for recognising that Taiwan was part of China.
He said the whole world realises that Taiwan was a province in China
Mr Li said the Chinese government was willing to settle the issue peacefully and commended the council in Zambia for the initiative.
