Zimbabwe: 7 Woza Activists Still in Police Custody

The seven members of the pressure group Women/Men of Zimbabwe Arise, who were arrested on Wednesday during demonstrations for inclusion in the crisis talks, are still in police custody. Lawyers were allowed to see the activists on Wednesday evening but were denied access on Thursday. It's reported the police are also refusing to discuss possible charges with the lawyers or the possibility of the activists being taken to court.

The arrested, including coordinators Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu, are being held at Bulawayo Central. Two of the detainees who were beaten during the arrest, are said to be in a lot of pain but have been denied treatment. WOZA reports that by lunchtime on Thursday police were refusing to allow food for the activists, although there had been no problems taking in food at breakfast or dinner last night.
