New York — Faith-based organizations are playing an ever-increasing role in the fight against poverty in Africa and across the developing world, experts say.
And the need for development and donor agencies to engage these organizations has never been more critical. For starters, faith-based organizations have a credibility that money can't buy: A 2006 Gallup World Poll in 19 African countries found that out of eight social and political institutions, 76 percent of respondents had the most confidence in religious institutions, beating out military, financial, health systems and even their own national governments.
