Nigeria: High Petrol Cost and VAT Increase Send Food Prices Skyhigh

Following the high cost of petroleum products coupled with the increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT), consumers in Lagos and environs have decried the astronomical increase in prices of foodstuff, household commodities, candies and biscuits, among others.

Investigations in major markets like Oshodi, Mushin, Ojuwoye, Oloosa and Agege revealed that the increase in the prices of petroleum products and VAT is taking their toll on both buyers and sellers. Many Lagosians who spoke lamented that they are using scarce resources to buy consumer goods and pay for services.
