Kampala — ANTI-FEMALE genital mutilation campaigners will be shocked to hear this: The act is legal, at least according to the Attorney General who is the chief legal adviser to the government.
The AG was responding to a petition in the Constitutional Court filed by Law and Advocacy for Women in Uganda challenging the custom of female genital mutilation (FGM) practiced among some tribes in Eastern Uganda. They claim FGM is unconstitutional.
