Ethiopia: MPs Say to Endorse Participatory Forest MDT in Policy Dialogue

Addis Ababa — Participatory Forest Management, PFM, an alternative practice used in maintaining and conservation of the natural environment has to be incorporated in the new forest management draft to be ratified soon, members of the Natural Resources Conservation Committee of the House of People's representatives said on Monday.

During a field visit they made to Chilimo-Gaji forest area, the Oromia regional State, where the practice is being applied, the parliamentarians said they would endorse PFM saying it has "proved to be successful." The MPs paid a one day working visit to the are to practically see the effectiveness of the alternative forest conservation system and talked to farmers who they said benefited from the alternative practice.
