Gambia: Release of Rambo And Kanyiba Suffers Set Back

The writ of Habeas Corpus filed on behalf of Ousman Jatta (alias Rambo), Councillor for Bakau ward and Kanyiba Kanyi, an employee of the Christian Children Fund (CCF), could not be heard by the High Court on Tuesday, June 19. Emmanuel Fagbenle, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), who is representing the state told the court that they would want a short adjournment of the case.

Habeas Corpus is a writ challenging the detention of a person in official or private custody. The matter was deferred and is expected back in court today, Wednesday. The writ of Habeas Corpus was filed by the duo's lawyer, Ousainou Darboe, who challenged their alleged detention by the state since September 2006.
