Uganda: UNHCR to Give IDPs Building Materials

Kampala — THE United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is to donate building materials to displaced persons resettling in Pader district.

Judy Chang-Hopkins, the assistant high commissioner UNHCR-Geneva, revealed this during her visit to displaced persons camps in the district on Saturday.

The district leaders had said much as the Government had provided residents with iron sheets, many could not afford the nails, timber and cement required for building.

"In order to supplement the Government's offer of iron sheets, UNHCR shall supply other building materials like timber, nails and cement," Chang-Hopkins promised.

Peter Ochieng, the district chairperson, said the distribution of ironsheets by the Government had been slowed down by the low turn-up of the recipients.

This is because of the conditions set, whereby only those people with structures but lack the iron sheets are entitled to them.
