Nigeria: Banking Services Paralysed in Bauchi

Bauchi — In Bauchi, the nation-wide strike affected banking services in state rendering the customers who had come to withdraw cash to facilitate business transactions stranded.

The strike also affected transportation as fuel scarcity has made okada business to increase their fares. The situation also caused severe hardship to the people.

Labour unions in the state had early-Wednesday embarked on strict surveillence with the sit at home order.

At the state government secretariat, workers were chased out by labour unions to ensure the effectiveness of the strike, warning workers to desert their offices.

Workers staged peaceful demonstrations along major streets but no violence was recorded. In the markets, people were busy attending to their normal businesses while labour unions were busy mobilising their members.

The Bauchi State chairman of the NLC chapter, Comrade Aminu Ahmed who told newmen that the National Heaquarters had directed all branches to ensure compliance with the nationwide strike so that Nigerians' demands would be met.

Comrade Ahmed commended the Bauchi State workers for their courage and support for the peaceful strike which it said was aimed at protecting the interest of Nigerians. He called on President Yar'Adua administration to look into the issue.
