Kenya: BAT Share Gains

Nairobi — British American Tobacco Company recorded the highest improvement in the Nairobi Stock Exchange 20-share index.

The cigarette manufacturer yesterday traded 2,100 shares at Sh185 each, up by Sh4 from last Friday's closing price of Sh181.

Housing Finance also gained Sh2.15 to trade at Sh34.50, moving 276,695 shares.

Pan Africa Insurance and Kapchorua Tea Company each gained Sh2 to trade at Sh92 and Sh112 respectively.

Pan Africa traded 4,400 shares while Kapchorua moved 800.

Total Kenya made a marginal gain of 50 cents to trade 68,900 shares at Sh30.50.

The losers

Kenya Commercial Bank led the day's losers after shedding Sh2.25. It sold 6,242,500 shares at 21.75 a piece. The bank is this week set to give an extra share for every 10 besides paying out a dividend to its shareholders.

The National Bank of Kenya also lost Sh1.50 to trade 91,800 shares at Sh49 each. Things were also not so rosy for Scangroup, the media company, which traded 120,501 shares at Sh24.50 each, down by Sh1.25.

Equity Bank, which is still celebrating its recent win of Global Vision Award, lost Sh1 to settle at Sh138, moving 134,400 shares.

CMC Holdings lost Sh0.70 to trade 436,400 shares at Sh14.20 each.

Mumias Sugar Company also lost 75 cents to settle at Sh26.

And although it was one of the biggest movers, having sold 440,100 shares, AccessKenya, the latest entrant in the stock market, sold at Sh12.90, down from Sh13.35 on Friday.
