Botswana Hosts First Zonal Hayashi-Ha Event

The Botswana Hayashi-Ha Karate Union will host the Zone VI senior and junior championships for the first time on Saturday at Boipuso Hall. However, only two countries - South Africa and Botswana - will participate in the tournament. Hosts Botswana is expected to field more than 100 karatekas while South Africa will bring more than 80 participants. Hayashi-Ha spokesperson Jerry Ditlhong said Zimbabwe and Zambia failed to make it because of financial problems.

He added that they decided to go on with the competition despite the low turn out. However, he explained that both Zimbabwe and Zambia would send officials. The competition will feature both kata and kumite. Ditlhong said the low turn out would not affect the quality of the competition, as both countries have good karatekas.
