Kampala — CHURCH leaders have been asked to appreciate the campaign to promote the use of condoms as a means of controlling the spread of HIV/Aids. The state minister for general duties, Dr. Richard Nduhura, asked the clergy to bear with the issue of condom use because the Government has to ensure that people are healthy.
Nduhura was speaking at celebrations to mark 10 years of service of the Uganda Health Partners' Association at Kizinda playground in Bushenyi district on Friday.
He noted that the spread of HIV/Aids was neither increasing nor reducing because of the use of condoms.
Nduhura asked other districts to emulate the Bushenyi local government, which had distributed condoms in strategic places like toilets for those who shy away from buying them in public.
"In Bushenyi, public servants and their visitors access free condoms because they are placed in strategic positions."
He also warned people who take ARVs as a cure for HIV/Aids.
"ARVs don't cure the disease, they only help you for some time so that you can plan for your children and families."
Nduhura said he was happy to note that people no longer fear or hide themselves from testing for HIV/Aids."
He urged the married to remain faithful to their partners.
The function attracted several district leaders and health organisations like the Family Planning Association of Uganda and Comboni Hospital.
