Nigeria: Local Seafarers, Shipowners on Collision Path Over Unfair Labour Practice, Wages

Lagos — MEMBERS of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association are set for a showdown with indigenous shipowners over unfair labour practices and poor remunerations paid to its members.

Speaking to Vanguard in Lagos recently, Captain Thomas Ikemerigha , National President of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Waters Transport Senior Staff Association said that there are laws guiding the payment of wages of seafarers in Nigeria, adding that ship owners have refused to comply with the existing law .
