Uganda: Kayunga Girls Sexually Active At 10 Years - Survey

Kayunga — GIRLS in Kayunga district engage in sexual activities at the age of 10, an HIV/ Aids survey has revealed. District Inspector of Schools Moses Olok said according to a survey carried out early this year, it was discovered that the HIV/Aids prevalence in the district was higher among the youths because many of them engage in unprotected sex at the age of 10.

"It is surprising and disheartening that at the age of 10 girls here are sexually active and many of them go with old men who infect them with HIV," Mr Olok said. The HIV/Aids prevalence in the district rose from 6 per cent in 2005 to 6.5 per cent today.
