Nairobi — A human rights organisation that has been giving free legal services to suspected Mungiki adherents has withdrawn its services.

The organisation withdrew the legal services citing the ghastly beheading and skinning of a two-year-old boy in what is suspected to be ritual killing.

Child Rights Advisory Documentation and Legal Centre (Cradle) legal officer, Mr Tony Odera, at the same time called for tougher measures against the killers.

"I could not believe that somebody could do this to a two-year-old boy. What threat would such a child pose to Mungiki in pursuit of its goals," asked Odera.

At the same time, a special squad has been sent to the Korogocho slums in Nairobi to hunt for Mungiki suspects who kidnapped and beheaded the child.

On Thursday, the team said it was pursuing crucial leads on the people believed to be behind the incident.

However, by the time of going to press, no arrest had been made. Kasarani police chief Mr Paul Ruto said police were treating the incident as murder.
