Uganda: Man Kills Brother Over Soccer Match

Kampala — A FOOTBALL match turned tragic for a family yesterday morning, as a Makerere University student stabbed his brother to death in Wandegeya, a city suburb. The incident occurred in Byanfuna supermarket where Sam Naluswa and Moses Kyegombe were watching the Copa America final between Argentina and Brazil.

When Brazil scored two goals, Kyegombe, an Argentina fan, turned off the television set. This annoyed Naluswa, an ardent Brazil fan, and a scuffle ensued.

"Their father intervened and asked them to stop fighting," a resident said on condition of anonymity.

But after Brazil won the match 3-0, Naluswa was not content. Wielding a knife, he allegedly trailed his brother and stabbed him as he entered his house.

Kampala Extra Police spokesman Simeo Nsubuga said Kyegombe died as he was being rushed to Mulago Hospital.

He said Naluswa, who is being held at Wandegeya Police Station, also stabbed his other brother, David Kiyaga. He was admitted to Mulago.

Kyegombe, 24, completed a Bachelor of Medicine degree recently while Naluswa, 22, is a second- year Bachelor of Education student.
