Kampala — The International Pen congress, an annual event that promotes intellectual cooperation among writers everywhere to fight for freedom of expression and to represent the conscience of world literature ended in the Senegalese capital, Dakar recently.
The congress, opened by the President of Senegal, Mr. Wade Abdoulaye was the first of its kind to be held in Africa with this year's designed to give special focus on African literature."The organisers hope that this year's congress will provide a unique opportunity to African writers to engage in cultural exchanges and savour the literary achievements of their counterparts from other continents which will provide an impetus for the creation of more centres on the African continent and thus lead to a more active engagement with world literature," said Prof. Arthur Gakwandi, the president of Uganda Pen Centre in a statement.
