Kampala — CHRIST the King choir, Kampala, has once again done Uganda proud. It scooped an award after taking part in the international choral festival and competition in California, recently.
The festival attracted choirs from Finland, Spain, Philippines and the U.S. Christ the King Choir was the only choral group that was invited from Africa.
It competed in western pieces that included Morten Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium and Pieterszon Sweelinck's Cantate Domino. The angelic choral sounds, perfect intonation and superb stylistic sense of the Ugandan choristers marveled the audience.
But what moved the audience even more was the choir's dynamic flexibility, sense of rhythm and magical yodels. The choir performed traditional songs like Omuyiggo, Zajumeera and Musengwa Anghekulire.
California's Vocal Arts Ensemble organised the event.
