The arrest of four men in Khayelitsha early yesterday has been described by police as a significant breakthrough in their investigation into taxi violence in the province.
Investigators from the police's provincial organised crime unit swooped on the suspects following a tip-off they received on Thursday.
Police spokesman Captain Randall Stoffels said no firearms were seized but two vehicles believed to have been used in a number of attacks were confiscated. He said more arrests were likely to follow.
The four men, in their early 30s, will face four charges of murder and one of attempted murder in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Stoffels said the men were believed to be involved in shootings in Kraaifontein and Delft.
