Eritrea: President Isaias Receives Message From Sudanese Counterpart

President Isaias Afwerki today received message from President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir of Sudan. Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, the Sudanese Foreign Minister, delivered the message.

The message deals with strengthening relations between the two sisterly countries that is based on mutual benefit, as well as regional and international issues, especially the Darfur issue and the stage it has reached.

Dr. Lam Akol told ERINA on arrival at Asmara International Airport that the Darfur issue is one of the major challenges facing Sudan at the moment and that vigorous efforts are being made to resolve it through peaceful means.

Stating that the Eritrean government is playing major role towards peacefully resolving the Darfur issue and thereby achieve lasting peace, the Sudanese official pointed out that Eritrea's endeavors to induce Darfur parties that did not sign the Abuja Accord come forward with a united stance in dialogue is not to be viewed lightly.

On Eritrean-Sudanese relations and the stage it has reached, Dr. Lam Akol indicated that swift and positive progress has been registered especially over the past two years. He went on to say that strenuous efforts continue to be made on the part of both sides to develop bilateral relations beyond the present stage for the mutual benefit of both peoples.

On arrival at the Airport in the morning hours and on departure in the afternoon, Dr. Lam Akol was welcomed and seen off by the Eritrean Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh.
