Angola: Vice Parliament Speaker Represents Head of State at Côte d'Ioire's Pacification Process Meeting

Luanda — Angola's first vice Parliament speaker, João Lourenço left Sunday for Côte d'Ivoire to represent the Angolan Head of State in the symbolic ceremony of weapons destruction to be held next Monday, in the framework of the country's pacification process.

The official informed at "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport that he was bearing a verbal peace and encouragement message of President José Eduardo dos Santos to his counterpart Laurent Gbabo and the Ivorian people.

João Lourenço explained that the ceremony of weapons destruction, in Bouaké locality, happens in the light of a set of measures based on the Ougadougou peace accords (Burkina Faso), signed on 04 March 2007 for peace in Côte d'Ivoire, which experienced the civil conflict that started civil conflict in October 2004.

"The purpose of this event is to grant a positive sign to Cote d'ivoire's society and the international community on the political and social commitment of the country's authorities to end the armed conflict that has been creating political, economic and social destabilisation of the nation", noted João Lourenço.

Also being attended by Heads of States of neighbouring countries, the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, was mainly invited to the meeting due to the role played by Angola in the resolution of conflicts, particularly on the advices to his Ivorian counterpart", he added.
