Angola: Swimming - Federation Meet to Analyse Nuno Rola's Doping Case

Luanda — The case of the Angolan swimmer Nuno Rola, who tested positive in an antidoping routine carried out at the All Africa Games, held from July 11 to 23 July in Algiers (Algeria), will be analysed during a meeting amongst members of the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN).

Speaking to ANGOP, here, the institution's secretary general, Lino Lourenço affirmed that the athlete was already suspended from all sporting activity, and that FAN will decide on the duration of the ban to later inform the international swimming federation.

He explained that the ban of the swimmer who is based in Portugal will be established under the regulations of World Antidoping Agency.

In his defence, the athlete that reached the semi-finals in the category of 200 meters butterfly during the All Africa Games of Algiers, claims that he only drank an energy drink purchased in Portugal whose leaflet did not mention the detected substance (androsterone).

FAN's secretary general stated that in case it is proved that the swimmer did not drink the energy on purpose he might receive a lighter punishment, taking into consideration that it is the first time that the swimmer is involved in such a case.
