Zimbabwe: Harare Utd Reduce Gap

Harare — A BOUYANT Harare United kept the pressure on pacesetters Gunners after a weekend of fluctuating fortunes for the leading contenders for the Zifa Northern Region Division One league championship.

Harare United reduced the gap between them and Gunners to five points setting the tone for an exciting second half as the giants battle for the sole ticket to the Premiership.

A brace by Ali Sadiki and another goal by Lisbon Matimati was all Harare needed to dismiss bottom club Blue Jets at Pfupajena.

Leaders Gunners were lucky to escape with a point at Zimphos grounds in Msasa when a first half shot by the home side's midfielder Frank Nkomo found the target but was somehow disallowed.

Zimphos coach Ikabort Masocha said they were disappointed by the disallowed effort.

"The referee later explained that he had already blown to end the first half when we scored but it happens in football and am happy with the way my team performed after we had lost 4-0 in the reverse fixture and we were underdogs in this game," said Masocha.

Third-placed Douglas Warriors marched on when they beat Kubatana 2-0 at Chipadze.

Milton Kureva and Victor Bangira scored for the Warriors who have now won all their games since they parted company with coach Solomon Mudavanhu.

Paul Chimalizeni's Haka lost 2-0 to Friday Phiri's GMB Tigers at Ngoni with Onius Mbiriri scoring a brace for the Aspindale-based side.

Dorking moved into the top four for the first time this season after registering back-to-back victories over debutants Falcon Gold.

The Concession-based side followed their 2-0 victory over Falcon Gold three weeks ago by edging the Chakari outfit 1-0 in their own backyard, thanks to a second-half goal by substitute Willion Taonazvinhu, who had came on for Lameck Hundi.

Taonazvinhu gained possession on the right and unleashed a rising shot which beat the Falcon Gold goalkeeper.

In the Eastern Region, pacesetters Kiglon thrashed Buffaloes 4-0 at Chibuku while rivals Air Zim Jets beat Mwenezana 1-0 in Mwenezi.
