31 July 2007

Benguela — The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila, has just wound up his visit to the port city of Lobito, Angola's central Benguela province, with a tour of the premises of Benguela Railways (CFB).

CFB operation is currently confined to a train shuttle between Lobito and Benguela, over an extension of 34 kilometres only.

It also includes a railway line serving Lobito storehouses and industries, with an extension of 18 kilometres and the Lobito/Cubal stretch with 154 kilometres of length.

The Benguela branchline is basically operating in ferrying passengers, with an approximate volume of traffic of 800,000 passengers a year.

The CFB operates with a staff of about 1,700 workers based in Lobito, Benguela and Huambo.
