THE Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Prince Udom Ekpoudom, has restricted the use of siren in the state to govenor, deputy governor, speaker, the GOC, Director of SSS and the commissioners, thus ruling out the strongman of Ibadan politics, Chief Lamidi Adedibu.

Prince Ekpoudom also raised alarm that most motor parks in the state had been turned into armoury where dangerous weapons like guns, cutlasses and axes were kept.

Prince Ekpoudom gave this directive at the State Headquarters of the command, Eleyele Ibadan when he paraded about 38 suspects who were alleged to have been involved in various criminal activities in the state.

Also included in the list of those banned from the use of siren are banks and bullion vans.

"Except the governor, deputy governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Commissioner of Police, Director of the State Security Services, ambulance and others authorized by law, anyone caught using siren, would be detained and charged to court no matter how highly placed the individual is."

The State police boss said, "Oyo people are warned against the use of siren with effect from Thursday, 2nd August, 2007. Anybody caught using siren except those authorized by law will be detained and taken to court. Bankers who use bullion van to convey money are also banned. We have discovered that bankers using siren merely attract armed robbers".

Reacting to the issue, one of the aides of the PDP chieftain (Adedibu), Alhaji Yaya Adetunji, said Chief Adedibu would abide by the order, adding that the use of siren had been abused by people to the extent that some commercial buses now blow siren about.

He added that it should be noted that security operatives were attached to some important people in the country and that Chief Adedibu was one of them.

Among those already in the net of the police included some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW),Ogbomosho branch who reportedly kidnapped one Adesola Adeniyi and tortured him to death.

The 19 union members had on June 22, 2007 around 8:00 a.m. kidnapped the victim and took him to Baby Motor Park where he was later killed by his alleged assailants.
