Windhoek — STANDARD Bank last week paid tribute to the Police officers responsible for arresting a gang of alleged bank robbers who have been wreaking havoc at many of the bank's branches since the beginning of the year.
Four different Standard Bank branches were hit by robbers during March, April and May, before a joint operation between police in Botswana and Namibia led to the apprehension of six suspects.
Standard Bank on Friday handed over certificates of merit to 62 officers from Okahandja, Gobabis, the Windhoek Serious Crime Unit and the Charleshill police station in Botswana.
The officers also each received a polar fleece body warmer.
At the occasion, held at Gobabis, Standard Bank MD Mpumzi Pupuma personally thanked the officers on behalf of the bank and its customers.
"Few of you know that many of the officers walked the whole night through the bush and did not sleep one wink the night after the Gobabis robbery to get to the bottom of these robberies and this led to the success of capturing them.
And, on top of that, it was a very cold night," he said.
