Nigeria: Borno - Lightning Kills 3 Persons, 16 Cows

1 August 2007

Lagos — Lightning killed three persons and 16 cows in Chibok, headquarters of Chibok Local Government Area of Borno.

Assemblyman Dala Mutah, member representing Chibok constituency in the State Assembly, confirmed the incident.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Maiduguri that two men and a final year female student of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, were killed.

According to him, the lightning was accompanied by a windstorm which destroyed the roof of more than 50 houses and rendered many people homeless.

Because no aid had been received from anyone, he decided to table the issue before the assembly to urge the local government council and the State Emergency Relief Agency (SERA) to intervene.

The legislature yesterday also passed a motions calling on the government to assist victims of another flood disaster in Dikwa.
