Keren — In line with efforts to provide equitable transportation service, a new road transport service to Emahmime, Anseba region, has opened.
According to the branch head of the Anseba regional road transport, Mr. Mengesha Mehari, a bus has been assigned to run weekly from Keren to Emahmime and another one from Keren to Nacfa twice a week.
Moreover, buses have been assigned for service along the Keren-Melebso and Hagaz-Ashera roads, while that of Keren-Debresina - Hadish Adi has been suspended due to bad conditions of the road.
Reports indicated that there are 175 buses proving service along in 29 routes of Anseba and Gash-Barka regions and Asmara. Besides, there are 80 mini-buses rendering service in Keren town.
Mr. Mengesha added that the necessary control mechanism is being applied to those charging more than the set amount and as such the owners of 653 buses have been penalized in the past few months for violating traffic regulations.
