After the epic fight between the two major contenders for the elite championship title this year, Mount Cameroon and Cotonsport in Garoua yesterday, both teams will be meeting again in another clash of the titans in the semi finals of the Cup of Cameroon to be played on August 19 and 26.
Both teams were pitted to play against one another in the draws for the semi finals of the Cup of Cameroon last Tuesday. The other semi final match will pit the Brazilians of Douala, Astres against the sand-sand boys from Batie, Sable.
Both Mount Cameroon and Cotonsport have won the Cup of Cameroon. Mount Cameroon has won it once whereas Cotonsport has won it twice. Both teams are competing on two fronts this year; the cup and championship. Mount Cameroon will play host to Cotonsport on the first day of play and the return leg will be played in Garoua.
The novelty this year is that the semi final matches will no longer be played only in omnisport stadiums, that is, Douala and Yaounde. It will henceforth be played in municipal stadiums meaning Mount Cameroon will host Cotonsport in Molyko.
On the other hand, Sable Batie and Astres have never won the cup of Cameroon. However, Sable is more experienced in the Cup than Astres having been two times finalist in 2003 and 2005. Sable was eliminated in the semi finals by Union which went on to win the cup last year. Whereas Astres was butted out in the 16th finals last year by little known Acadasport of Limbe.
