Angola: Implementation of Peace Accords for Cabinda Positive - Territory Minister

Luanda — Angola's Territory Administration minister, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, said Wednesday in northern Cabinda province, the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding for Peace in Cabinda, has recorded no setbacks in its first year.

Virgílio de Fontes Pereira said so at the end of a Thanksgiving ecumenical service, which hailed the first anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for Peace in Cabinda, celebrated Wednesday, August 01.

He underlined that the next step has to do with appointment of other Cabinda Forum members into the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation (GURN).

On Wednesday, some FCD members were appointed for Angolan embassies abroad, for local government and public companies based in Cabinda, in the ambit of the clauses contained in the Memorandum.

The tasks accomplished include integration of former FLEC military into the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in the National Police, as well as ex-soldiers into the civil society along with their families.

Also benefiting from the amnesty were all those who committed crimes. Military equipment used by the former guerrillas were destroyed.
