President Nkurunziza has promised to fight graft and corruption, but Mr. Bizimana is the first high profile to be thrown behind bars for such reasons.

The next inline is probably Madame Denise Sinankwa, the former Burundi Finance minister who is accused of double paying a Burundi oil importing firm, Interpetrol. President Nkurunziza fired Madame Denise Sinankwa two weeks ago while she was on official duty in Mauritius.

While she had denied of any wrong doing, it is suspected that there is also a warrant out for her arrest on charges of embezzling state funds.

This decision was made following a state auditors' report released in June. The result of the investigation found out that Interpetrol was paid $7.5 million in 2005, but an additional $6.5 million was sent out under Sinankwa's decree.

It is expected that Isaac Bizimana would be questioned about a payment of $14 million he authorized to the company for the same reasons under the orders of Minister Sinankwa.
