Angola: Sol Bank Credits Reach USD78 Million

Luanda — The package of credits of the Angolan privately owned "Banco Sol" has reached Usd 78 million in the first semester of this year, against the 33 million of the corresponding period of 2006.

The information was released Monday in Luanda by the bank's commercial director, Albino de Azevedo.

In the period in respect, the bank's deposits reached Usd 267 million, beating the management's estimates that put the figure at Usd 220 million. In the corresponding period of the year 2006, the package of deposits was of Usd 170 million.

The source said that as a result of the performance achieved, the bank expects to reach about Usd 320 million until the end of this year, 30 percent of which will be used for credits.

As to the net results, from January to June this year, the bank reached Usd 2,8 million, which represents an increment of Usd 800 as compared with corresponding period of 2006.

Albino Azevedo explained that his institution expected to attract 85,000 clients, but ended up gathering 93,000. in the corresponding period of last year, the bank had 62,000 clients. It expects to reach 150,000 clients until the end of this year. "Banco Sol" was established in 2001 and has more than 300 workers.
