The Kgalagadi Beverages Trust (KBT), the social investment arm of Kgalagadi Breweries (KBL) and Botswana Breweries, this week announced the beginning of the fourth round of its youth entrepreneurship project, Kickstart.
A statement from KBL says this year's competition has been funded to the tune of P1 million, which will go towards project capitalisation, mentorship, training and ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
Announcing this year's sponsorship, KBT Trustee and KBL Group Managing Director, Hloni Matsela, said the programme's importance in reducing unemployment and developing quality entrepreneurs influenced the decision to continue funding it.
He noted that in just four years, Kickstart has already created over 52 permanent jobs, whose trickle down effect is changing many lives across Botswana.
Receiving the sponsorship on behalf of the beneficiaries, Corporate Communications Manager Thabiso Botlhole said the project, which accepts applications from August 1, 2007, will seek to fund four to five entrepreneurs and train a further 10 to bring the total to 18 and 45 for funded businesses and trained entrepreneurs respectively.
To-date, Kickstart has funded 13 young people from different business sectors operating in various places including Francistown, Kasane, Bobonong, Digawana, Tsabong, Maunatlala and Gaborone.
This year, the programme's total sponsorship amount rises to P4 million since inception.
To ensure a wider geographic spread, the forms will be made available from various KBL and BBL depots located in Gaborone, Lobatse, Kanye, Palapye, Francistown, Selebi-Phikwe, Maun and Chobe's Beverages Distributors in Kasane.
The deadline for applications is September 27, 2007. Winners of Round Four will be announced in January 2008.
